I get the question often as to what size canvas I draw on. I’ve answered in responses to explain the basics numerous times, but I’m going to write a bit more detailed response so all can understand and reference.
(I’ll use my Dirty Pair piece as the guinea pig for this explanation.)
I simultaneously agree and disagree with this tutorial, but think it ultimately comes down to working preference. I actually get a fair amount of questions about this, and it’s difficult knowing what to suggest given my personal techniques. Some pieces over the years I’ve had no choice but up the file’s DPI for print in the same way this tutorial instructs, and I’ve noticed the difference in fidelity.
However!, I do stupidly fine lines, and often start with a traditional drawing in varying levels; purely digital work, especially looser/more painterly pieces, would suit this MUCH better. This could be a HUGE help to a large portion of people, and recommend anyone struggling with these problems to try this out!
Accidentally reblogged this to my spam blog instead of art. This could be a big help to those struggling to work on large files, and will be referring to it for future asks.
